Moto for Education

I Got an E-Mail from Rick Rose requesting a mention about a noble cause. Here is a copy of his letter.

I’m hoping you’ll post something about Moto For Education in your blog, and help get the word out about a desperate situation.

My cousin volunteers for a school in Honduras that provides distance education for the Lenca people of the region. When she told me that the four teachers were prevented from reaching their students -- some almost 100 km. away through difficult mountainous terrain -- because two of their old motorcycles died, and the third can barely be repaired, I offered to help. I think it’s safe to say that anyone who bikes, races or rides knows the value of a reliable set of wheels -- I sure couldn’t do without mine. And I know that motorcycle enthusiasts are also a caring bunch of people. So I’m spreading the word that those teachers -- Bertha, Arturo, Armando, and Natividad – desperately need our help. A whole lot of small donations will quickly add up to a huge difference in the lives of their students. To learn more about this wonderful distance education program, El Maestro en Casa (Teacher in the Home), and to make a donation, go to Moto For Education at http://lencaeducation.org/support-us/moto-for-education. Let’s make a difference in the lives of Lenca students. Let’s help them buy a new motorcycle for their school.

I’m attaching a logo, and a photo of Bertha and the last remaining motorcycle. I’m also attaching a photo of me and my old lady (literally, old: it’s my 88-year-old mother) on my 650 Yamaha. Feel free to use any or all, and to edit the text if you need to.

Many thanks for your consideration and help,
Rick Rose

IT COSTS YOU NOTHING TO SAVE A LIFE

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DRIVERS ARE NOT AWARE OF MOTORCYCLISTS

Drivers of other vehicles do not see motorcycles until they hear the crashing sound. Then it’s too late.

Drivers of other vehicles need to be educated on motorcycle awareness. Today, more motorcyclists are being injured or killed by drivers of other vehicles because the drivers do even think about watching out for motorcycles/

Dying to Ride was founded to promote motorcycle awareness.  DTR will be presenting motorcycle awareness to students at high school learner driver classes and to different groups of experienced adult drivers.  DYING TO Ride is more than a motorcycle awareness organization.

Dying to Ride is also providing comfort to widows of motorcycle collisions.  Teresa has experienced the pain and grief of becoming a widow through a motorcycle collision. She is providing practical and emotional support through her experience to help other widows cope with their loss.  As Teresa helps other widows, she will be asking them to join her in a group to help future widows.

Dying to Ride has future plans to introduce legislation to mandate that drivers of other vehicles who are involved in collisions with motorcycles are required to attend a motorcycle awareness course. Dying to Ride strongly believes the introduction of this legislation will in itself make awareness more important to drivers.

The testimony telling why Dying to Ride was founded by Teresa Mills , after her husband Rob was involved in a fatal collision with a careless driver. Dying to Ride is not a business. It is a dedication and a will to present motorcycle awareness to the drivers of other vehicles to prevent what happened to her from happening to others.  The DTR testimony is attached for your convenience and can be viewed on the Dying to Ride website at http://dyingtoride.org/testimony.htm

Largest Ever Ride To Work Day Expected

Media Release: For immediate use
Date: 05/15/09
Subject: Motorcycle and Scooter Ride To Work Day

Largest Ever Ride To Work Day Expected

Monday, June 15, 2009

The 18th Annual Ride To Work Day is a month away, and this year the weaker economy is causing many commuters to turn to motorcycles and scooters to save money on transportation. These new everyday riders are finding cycles and scooters to be an economical, efficient and enjoyable way to get to work and around town. Because of the world-wide depression, this year is expected to be the largest Ride to Work Day demonstration ever, according to Ride to Work, a non-profit organization.

According to the United States Census Bureau and the Department of Transportation, over eighty million cars and light trucks are used for daily commuting on American roads, and about 200,000 motorcycles and scooters are a regular part of this mix. On Ride To Work Day, the practical side of riding becomes more visible as a larger number of America's 8,000,000 cycles are ridden to work.

Ride to Work Day helps demonstrate how these vehicles make parking easier and help traffic flow better. Studies have shown that across equal distances, commuting motorcyclists reach their destinations in less time than those using automobiles, that motorcycles and scooters consume less resources per mile than automobiles, and that they take up less space on roads. Motorcycle and scooter riders seek improved employer recognition and support for this form of transportation, and more public and government awareness of the positive value of riding.
Changes to the Ride To Work website include new forum areas, and additional free promotional support materials.
